Ok, first of all what is VAG-COM or VCDS? VAG-COM is a cable Interface that plugs into the car’s OBD port. And VCDS is the Windows based software that is developed by RossTech – which uses this Interface to log into car’s ECU diagnostics computer.
Hence it’s a diagnostic software that will diagnose vehicles with VAG engines, meaning it covers nearly all Audi, Volkswagen Seat and Skoda models. It also works on non-VAG vehicles, but is limited to generic OBD2 system of Engine and Transmission.
VAG cars have been scannable (starting out with OBD1) since 1990’s. Therefore if you have a VW or Audi that was assembled from 1990 to present – you can immediately and safely use the VAGCOM-VCDS diagnostic tool.
A car owner/mechanic can use the VCDS system for virtually all the functions that the dealer diagnostic tools can perform.
Before the owners of a vehicle had no option but to take their vehicles to a dealership to run the diagnostics… but now with VAG-COM… the smaller independent workshops, or DIY’er can perform key functions using vehicle’s onboard computer technology.
The type of diagnostics that can be done range from engine related problems such as diesel ignition timing to coding a new electronic control unit (ECU).
The VCDS diagnostic system uses a more detailed manufacturer protocol commands and allows the user to access all the diagnostics that have been installed in the vehicle provided it is a Volkswagen or Audi.
Uses of Ross-Tech VAGCOM / VCDS
On of the key components to good vehicle maintenance, repair or upgrade is to make sure that you have the right tools and know how to use them.
Using the VAG-COM diagnostic tool will show you the state of your engine, how it is performing and then you can make the required adjustments to ensure that your car runs as economical as possible and reliably.
- There are lots of car enthusiast that like to check if the car is running according to the original OEM specifications… and doing the diagnostics using the VAG-COM with a VW or Audi… will do exactly that.
- A person generally knows when a vehicle is not running right and often the symptoms are obvious with bad idling, struggling to start and loss of power. Using diagnostic systems will show exactly where the problem lies letting you do the required repairs and getting it back to its best performance.
- Sometimes modifications need to be made to get the optimum performance and using the VAG-COM before and afterwards will show what the improvements are after the Volkswagen or Audi engine has been modified.
How it works
It uses the OBD-II on-board diagnostic system which is part of the engine operating parameters. This however, requires to be decoded and that is exactly what the VAG-COM software does for the Audi and Volkswagen engines.
It then codes them into 4 character codes which are simple to understand and each one is related to the performance of the vehicle.
There are thousands of different codes and by using the VCDS system it will direct you to exactly where the problem is lying.
In short, if you have a Volkswagen or an Audi there you no longer the need to guess what is wrong with the car or doing modifications by trial and error.
The great thing about the VAG-COM diagnostic system a person no longer has to visit the dealer and pay an astronomical price for the service but you can do it right from your home.
How to Use the VCDS Software
After the software has been downloaded onto your laptop… start the VCDS from the shortcut icon on your computer and the main screen will appear. It will show all the options that are available.
Plug the cable into the car and to the laptop and turn the ignition on.
Go to the options menu and it will show the tab port and protocol options.
Then you select the port or USB that it is connected to. Press the test button and the test window will show. If the message ok’s, the software is ready to use!
To test the vehicle you will need the cable that plugs into the car and the plug is in the vehicle cab normally placed somewhere in the dash of the car.
Scanning for Faults
Once the scanning screen is accessed then it will require the chassis number.
Each chassis number have different control modules that exist across the VW and Audi range and with newer cars, there are more control modules and the reason why the chassis number is important is that not one of the cars have all the modules.
The newer models that have a full CAN diagnostic system a person can use the auto detect function of the software.
The VAG-COM directory has a file for all the vehicle profiles and it can be edited if you press the hyperlink above the chassis type.
If you are not sure of which controllers you have in your car you can use the control module finder.
Press the start and the auto scan will start. This process can take a while but after it is completed the lines that are printed in Red are where there are faults.
You click on these and the fault codes can be cleared. depending on the fault it is important the necessary repairs have been carried out.
Using the Codes to Modify the Vehicle
Using fuel trim as an example the VAG-COM will check the current status of the fuel trim and in this case, you need to check the appropriate group for the vehicle.
For modern vehicles, you can check the repair manual for the particular module.
Once you have accessed the code you will find two percentages. The first percentage is when the car is idling and the second percentage is when the car is operating at faster speeds.
Negative figures indicate that the vehicle is running too rich and the oxygen sensor is, therefore, closing the injectors to soon.
Positive values are the engine is running too lean and the opposite effect will take place with the injector control.
After that, you can adjust the trim as per the factory manual.
There will very seldom be zeros in both the fields and if there are you have probably cleared the values.
One of the advantages of using the VAG-COM diagnostic system is that you have the flexibility to do readings of the various sensors in real time.
Firstly you need to choose the modules and generally, these modules are all listed under the engine option.
By using the features you are able to log more than one group at a time. These can include the air mass meter diagnosis, vehicle speed but that is generally just for interest and coolant intake and temperature which is a good way to compare the revs against the vehicle speed.
To use some examples
Using Block 115 there will be readings in column 3 and 4 which will be the requested boost and the actual boost. The ECU is programmed to control the turbo waste gate to achieve close to the requested boost.
Therefore when the car is at full throttle then the deviation should at no time be higher than 100 millibars. If the deviation is higher than that then there could be a problem.
Just like block 120 you can measure the amount of torque and compare the readings to other parameters such as the boost and duty cycle. If all these three factors are strong then the car is running well.
If the boost is too low then there could be a pressure loss such as the clamps or if there are any cracks. If it does not solve the problem then you will need to troubleshoot the system.
Some Tips for Data Logging
Setting up the vehicle: make sure that the air conditioning is off. If you have traction control then turn that off as well and make sure that all the car windows are up. It is important to note that if the car was running on a different octane fuel before the test then run it as low as possible and put the fuel that you would like to test the vehicle with. Drive the car for at least 15 km to make sure that the last of the fuel is used up.
At what speeds to drive: The runs are generally done in full throttle and in 4th gear. The revs start at 1500 rpm to red line. If speed is a problem then use a lower gear and do the run that way.
A number of runs: There should be no less than 4 runs and each run will cover certain logs in order for you to ensure that you get the engine information to enable you to make repairs or modifications. It is important to note that the engine should be at operating temperature before you start logging and that you use the same stretch of road.
Setting up the computer: The data that is being logged should be in the advanced measuring block which you will find in the Engine Controller Interface. The next step is to activate the turbo mode so that you get a good data sampling rate. Make sure that you get the data feedback in numerical data and not in graphs. You are able to export the required data in CSV format.
Below are some screen shots that show you how to set up the computer.
Each round is used for the different analyses with the first one being the analyses between the boost and fuelling.
You get the results from the data read out which include a total of 12 items. These are:
- The speed of the engine
- Any misfires
- The lambda value
- The accelerator pedal position
- What the throttle angle is
- The timing
- The fuel pressure at the time
- N75 Duty Cycle
- The boost pressure which is specified
- The boost pressure that was achieved
- The rail pressure which is specified
- The actual rail pressure
Each of the rounds is for different diagnostics and these include Boost and timing, MAF load and Misfire specific.
Output Tests
This is the measuring of data when it is available from the specific module in question. To do the output tests using the VCDS click on the “start button” or “Activate” depending which module is being used.
Aspects that need to be taken into consideration when doing output tests is that:
- The outputs that are tested and in which sequence will depend on the modules and not the diagnostic tester. To find out the sequence refer to the factory repair module.
- Once the test has been started and you would like to go back then clicking “Done, Go Back” will take you back to the Open Controller function screen.
- Most modules will only allow sequence testing only once per session. Even though the VCDS system will allow you to go back to the previous screen the sequence is still running. But it will probably not allow you to run the testing sequence again. However, there is a method of doing it manually.
- Some output tests might need additional actions and as an example, if you want to run a test on the injectors the accelerator pedal needs to be pressed before the test will begin
- Most of these test are only available when the engine is not running.
- The message “short to ground” is normal.
There are a few warnings that need to be taken into consideration when doing output tests.
- Never try and do output tests while the car is being driven. By doing output tests while it is in motion can have dire consequences. The ABS brakes, for example, could be disabled and then activated causing one wheel at a time being locked and unlocked.
- Before anyone ventures in doing output tests, it is recommended that the repair manual is read and thoroughly understood so that you know what to expect.
- If you try and do output tests on the Airbag you could get a warning saying that the car might not start and asking if you would like to proceed.
Summary of the Advantages
Anyone who has a workshop can now have access to VCDS diagnostic tools. If you own or service Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda or Seat… and you want to make sure that the cars perform at their best then doing the diagnostics are a crucial part of the service.
You could be an enthusiast who services their own vehicles and with the VAG-COM diagnostic tool will ensure that you will get the ultimate performance from the car
Following are the diagnostics and capabilities of using the VCDS system:
- Gain OEM quality access to all the diagnostics for VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda cars (including Bentley) and they do not have to be modern but any model manufactured from 1990 to current can have diagnostics done using the VAG-COM system.
- Able to scan for over 19,000 fault codes and reset them.
- Through the module coding system the modules can be coded which was only possible by using factory level tools before.
- You can do modifications that are specific to the country that you live in such as seat belt chimes, sunroof with remote and enable lap timer plus much more.
- One of the biggest advantages is to be able to get data logging while driving and checking the performance of the engine making sure that it is always giving the best economical use of fuel etc.
- Diagnosing first when there is a failure in the vehicle which allows that the faulty part only is replaced.
To download and install the VAG-COM software only requires a computer and an Internet connection. The suppliers can advise which connecting devices to use but most of them whether they are Wi-Fi or USB connections will be able to work with most models that have been assembled in 1990 onwards.
Some, however, have a limit to a number of cars and if you are a workshop owner there are systems available that will diagnose an unlimited amount of cars.
Some accessories that might come in handy are:
- Getting a copy of the VCDS manual so that you can get started
- Purchase an HEX-NET interface and the frequently asked questions so that you can do your own troubleshooting if needed
- An OBD-II right angle extension cable if you would like to ensure that the diagnostic tool is connected away from the driver’s feet and legs.
- Have a USB extension cable so that the VCDS can be connected to the car and the computer.
- If the car was manufactured before 1995 then as part of the accessories is a 2 x 2 adapter to connect to the OBD-II which is being used with the current diagnostic tools.
Conclusion
The great feature of the modern cars is that they are fully computerised… and if you are an owner of an Audi or Volkswagen; having a VAG-COM diagnostic system will ensure that you can maintain the vehicle to operate at its peak performance which is in the long term a lot more economical.
What was once only available to the factory or dealer workshops is now available to everyone.
Hi , Which system will I need for a 2014 Transporter? Thanks
Yes, VAG 18 supports your car https://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/shop/vagcom-vcds-18
VAG-COM never fails to deliver. Started out with junk 409.1 KKL. Ended up on this site and bought the total car diagnostics vagcom/vcds kit. Works just like ross-tech from my friend. Also long coding work. Thrilled. Also even supports unlimited VIN’s.
Is this original Ross tech vag com software?
With Vag 18 possible to do some coding ? 2004 VW G5
Example:Door warning light enable and so on. ?
(Ofc my comfort modul have to know this feature)
Yes, but please confirm this (Because it varies from model to model), by Googling now: vcds coding 2004 vw g5 (This let’s you see how others have done it via VAGCOM cable and included Ross-Tech VCDS software)
VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System) is a Microsoft Windows-based software package, developed and produced by Ross-Tech, LLC since May 2000. It is mainly used for diagnostics and adjustments of Volkswagen Group motor vehicles, including Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Audi, Bentley (limited), SEAT, and Skoda cars, amongst Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The name “VAG-COM” derives from the acronym for Volkswagen Auto Group (VAG), the former name of the Volkswagen Group. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VAG-COM
Thank you, good !
I was indeed skeptical about this VAGCOM cable from Total Car Diagnostics, as know many clones exist. However seeing the suffice reviews and literally no negatives, assumed it can’t have been sold for so long, unless it’s as it claims. Indeed works 100% like friends original RossTech VAGCOM which I reviewed to be 100% impeccible. After I replaced the diesel fuel filter in my 2016 VW Jetta TDI, I used this to activate the two fuel pumps and it works great and it is not limited to diagnostics. Get this.
I’ve tried an alternative tool for my jetta. And can’t reset DPF/EGR. I heard vag can. Is this true?
Where can i download the software from?
Excellent article. Found it by searching for “how to use vag com” and while there’s videos on how to use on Audi TT, none of them are as detailed as this. Great work.
Can VAGCOM 18.9 clear addblue warning on Audi A6 C7 2014? Dash show 200km has left to drive, other software don’t show any fault code. Addblue reservoar has been emptyed and refilled by factory specifications.
If it’s just for that one issue (Adblue), then not recommended. Else if doesn’t work, wastes time returning. Only get if intend to use for more issues then just one. Yes, it can read it’s status, but no guarantee to reset.
Thx for quick replay.
Superb! Vehicles’s Airbag light had been on for 1 year. Audi dealer said they are still waiting for a “repair” from airbag manufacturer. I used the VAGCOM unit purchased from this site and reset my airbag instantly with push of a button. It’s been weeks and airbag light is still off.
Hiya,
What do I need for a 2013 Q7 S-Line 3.0 TDI?
Can you please send me pricing and reseller info in Melbourne Australia?
Thanks
Roy
Few days ago, bought a 2018 VW Golf R and begun performing random research into how to get the passenger mirror dip when the car is in reverse gera. We encountered VAG-COM by RossTech through various website searches and YouTube videos, so I determined it to be best scan tool for the job, and bought it from Total Car Diagnostics to see if it could do what I needed.
The one thing I can say is that this VCDS software and VAG cable works, and better than imagined. Not only was I able to activate the Dipping mirror feature, but I was also able to disable the Seat Belt chime, add different colors for the ambient lighting, adjust the throttle response, and many more long coding features, not hard to learn.
The vagcom and vcds package itself is extremely easy to use. If you have a Audi or Volkswagen car, this is a must tool without exception.
Reads 1999 VW Jetta obd2 airbag and any other CANBus data. Used to diagnose the dreaded airbag light. Now if I could only find a new airbag that would work as well as this vagcom scanner!
Works as expected. 2009 Audi Q3.6 cheerfully connected to vcds, and immediately showed overwhelming quantity of technical data. Was able to diagnose and fix the $70 part – a brake switch that failed to work correctly. Can’t imagine how much Audi would’ve charged for this fix. Perhaps $200+. Seems to talk to all 40 modules on the car. For $97, the VAG package is a very important piece of kit for having a predictable chance of fixing something yourself. It’s for Windows only. So comes with the VCDS software for the curious.
Is it possible to change computers. My old laptop is playing up. Can I download to a usb stick and transfer the data to a new computer. HEX+CAN
Thanks for your advice
I don’t know about if original RossTech VAGCOM allows this. Our VAG/VCDS can be installed on unlimited computers.
Works flawlessly in my dad’s Audi Q7 2009 4.2 FSI. We can access each module in this Audi, reading and erasing the errors codes with push button ease. Also works as an OBD2 scanner for other car manufacturers (only OBDII button will work in VCDS software for this). I am satisfied with the money that I paid for this rosstech vag-com scanner.
Over course 2+- months, our 2005 Passat developed an intermittent Immobilizer problem. Sometimes the key would be recognized and start, sometimes the instrument cluster would have a flashing yellow key and also “Immobil Active” prompt. Attempted various solutions. Determined the instrument cluster (Half MFA) was the problem and requiered to be changed. Specific codes are needed to perform this job. With VAGCOM, it worked!! Special function/Read PIN code/Instruments/Enter/Enter/Enter as we remember.
Vagcom (VCDS) is diagnostic software that allows access to the various electronic modules of the VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat automobile. It reads error codes and allows to change settings in the car. Most people that have it use it to change convenience features and for reading error codes. Only very knowledgeabe users should use it to change any settings that have to do with the powertrain. You can buy it here (click me) , but it isn’t cheap. I know other members here have code readers they’ve bought other places but that’s all they are is a code reader.
Good price and it works too as neighbors original. It cleared my check engine and airbag codes on my 2006 new beetle. Easy to use and price was cheaper then the dealer would have charged.
Totally pleasured! Vag worked better than I expected. Yes, it uses genuine Vcds Ross software. Long story short, vehicles airbag, anti-skid, and tpms lights were activated when we removed the seats to replace the carpet because of water leak in the sunroof drain.
Instead of getting punched in the gut by whopping fees of a mechanic service center, we had a couple of other options. I could opt $50 for low-cost Xtool Vag401 on Amazon, or take the gamble for $67 for this Vagcom unit which found by Googling. The airbag was successfully reset, so the unit did the job and deserves a mention here indeed.
Also it was a bonus to get the unit to activate the backup camera option for the navigation unit (RNS315)! So now I need to find the OEM backup camera kit and we’re in business. Worth every cent!
I live in the US and have 2 Audis 2012 A6 3.0T & 2016 A6 3.0T
Will this work on both my cars?
Yes, VAG 17 will work. Not VAGCOM 12, as it only supports OEM codes up to 2013.
Hi, I own 3 Audis
2007 a4
2008 a3 s line
2008 a3 premieres the vagcom 12
Will work?
Thank you.
Yes, VAG 12 will work on all 3.
Hi, I have a 2018 VW Tiguan that I would like to modify the setting regarding overtaking_right_prevention using ACC. Will i be able to adjust using this cable/software? Also, does the software work with an Apple laptop?
Only original RossTech unit can.
It sounds like you are saying I should be able to program the ecu to my jetta using VCDS? I’ve purchased VAG-TACHO to pull the immobilizer pin, it keeps telling me that I need to turn the key off/on and try again and does not retrieve the skc.
The manufacture date of my jetta is 07/2004 does that mean it should not require a pin to access the immobilizer and if not how would I get the key to work with the car without a code to access programming the key?
Good tool… simple to use… accurate… money saver! You get the codes for sure, look them up on the internet and buy the needed part to repair… avoid the time and the money of a mechanic… at the very least, know what is wrong with the automobile before taking it to mechanic. Also able to code like original RossTech VAGCOM, so it’s a truly useful tool.
Ir works with SEAT ateca 2018
If it’s made before 30 Jan 2018, then will work with VAGCOM 18 https://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/shop/vagcom-vcds-18
Will vag com work to help me reprogram. my car for my new switchblade key chip …they turn ignition and locks but car starts a d shuts offff
Hello I have a 2018 VW Tiguan which version VagCom do I need and which hardware plugin?
Vag18, as it supports vehicles in 2018.
Hi, I have a 2013 Passat that has a 2.5 L engine. Could you tell me which VAGCOM/ VCDS will work, 12 or 18?
VAG 18. Not sure 12 will cover that car.
2018 Audi Q7. Will this work?
VAG 18 will.
Hi,what do I need for forcing a re-Gen on a 2007 VW V10 Touareg.
Does precisely as stated. I needed the device to reset the alarm state on my 2008 Audio Q5 when it goes into a BUGGY fault condition. I keep the this vag-com scan tool in my car to do emergency resets, when and if, the Audi computer’s take a dump. Always the same alarm code, and always clears instantly, and when reset, my Audi runs perfectly.
Good analysis of various VCDS software functions. I searched for various VAG-COM units, but only found Total Car diagnostics to be proper after original at RossTech. Will also buy original because can see vag software is excellent and does what promised.
Hi 🙂
A couple of years ago I bought the vcds/vag-com 12.12 cable(not 100% sure it’s called 12.12 but it starts with 12 atleast).
The software has worked perfectly except for some access/security/login codes on 2010-2012 vehicles isnt available.
Is it possible to update the software and/or cable so I can use a newer version of vcds/vag-com?
Can upgrade to latest. If bought VAG 12 from, us, email: http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/support/Tickets/Submit . Ask for upgrade and we’ll send upgrade instructions.
Was skeptical about this VAGCOM cable working because the reviews for others were hit or miss, but this actually worked flawlessly. I have a 2013 Jetta and was able to code some things and clear some faults. Definitely a good purchase.
Does VAGCOM support key transponder and immobilizer disabling? Seeing VCDS videos wasn’t clear. There’s some RossTech advice on forums, but not sure if works on 2018 Q3
Can this be used to perform modifications like remapping the ECU for improved performance on a 1999 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8turbo? If not can you give me some tips on how to do this?
Thanks.
No. VAGCOM won’t do that. Only analyze state of it’s various systems.
I did a spark plug change on my Audi Q5 and I suddenly got the dreaded Check Engine light. I ordered this VAGCOM Scanner right away from Total Car Diagnostics, and arrived via EMS within 6 days. I plugged it in and it gave me the necessary information to go to the correct harness in which a cable had snapped. I fixed it and saved me a $700 trip to the OEM dealer. Now I have it for any future “problems”. Thanks!
Will VAGCOM WORK ON MY 2006 VW Multivan with 2.5L R5 Diesel engine
Thanks
100% will work.
Thanks Alex
Is the Xtool VAG-COM 401 compatible with my AUDI A5 3litre TDI as I have a service due message on the dash that I would like to reset.
Thanks regards Brian.
Used this to code my 2017 A5 audi. I hate that the doors don’t unlock when the engine is killed. I almost didn’t buy the car because of that. Now my car unlocks when I stop the engine and the screen/music shuts off when I open the door. The DVD player now works while driving and I can even play movies from a USB drive. I almost decided with another VAG-COM like product that is more expensive, but I’m so glad I found out about this rosstech version.
If you are coding inside vcds software on Windows, make sure you code one thing at a time and restart the car to make sure each item works.
My VW PAssat 1.9tdi estate, model 2007 has a starting problem, no dash lights when key is inserted, have to try several times to get ignition. Meanwhile yellow steering light comes on in dash, sometimes with the coil sign. My research has indicated most probably problem is the steering column lock (spring failing or something similar) will need replacement or perhaps even resetting, and that this was identified as a VW problem years ago but there were no recalls. Going to buy and replace the lock and wish to know whether your software and cable will cover my replaced part programming need for it (the part) to work? I live in London.
This is difficult to self diagnose. Issue is likely monitored by sensor, as you said (yellow light on dash). Hence vag-com unit will indeed provide data (which I’m 80% confident) to reveal the issue.
Why bring your VW, Audi, Skoda or Seat vehicle into a garage for them to tell you what’s wrong? Then be concerned if they are telling you a real problem, making up a larger one, or making one up period just to make extra cash! Now you can tell if you really need to take it in.
I’ve used a few other VAG fault code readers in the past. Including owning original RossTech VCDS/VAG-COM combo. And they worked. RossTech broke. So shopped around for something equal to RossTech VAG-COM.
Found Total’s VAG and it works great. Literally same original VCDS software for Windows. Especially for someone like me… who is more useful doing home repairs than working on a car… could certainly benefit with a trusty handy man scanner.
I was able to find out what was wrong with my vehicle, and yes I needed to bring it in. But I wasn’t worried I was being ripped off.
If you are sick of wondering, hoping and hoping you don’t get taken for a suprse, Grab yourself this obd vag scanner/reader (whatever you call it). Or maybe you someone who can work on your own car? Grab yourself a vagcom, and you know what you need to get to fix your car.
Maybe a silly question but I have not found a concrete answer on your page. So I am interested in VAGCOM 18.9 USB Cable & VCDS 18.9 Original VAG-COM Software (Audi, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen Cars) product. I have a VW Passat from last year September. Is this cable compatible (long coding, optimisation)?
I want to change the fuel filter on my 2011 jetta sportwagen. Will this manually turn on fuel pump to prime filter canister? Thanks Kurtass
Yes. For proof, google this: vcds turn on fuel pump
You’ll see how others have done it. Also has videos.
Only VAG 18 can do this (not VAG 12): https://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/shop/vagcom-vcds-18
Is there any tuning benefits to using this product for my 2004 Audi TT with 3.2l and DSG? I note in instructions it specifies the 2.0l turbo charged engine. Namely I’d like to check & adjust fueling plus reset trans settings so shifting is labouring engine (ie 6th gear at 30km/hr)./ Jim
Please Google: vcds ___
eg: vcds fuel adjust
or: vcds transmission settings
Reason is “VCDS” is software that’s included with VAG-COM cable. And by doing the search, can easily find if it’s possible with VCDS software and how it’s actually done.
I’ve used at least 3 VAGCOM tools in my lifetime. Got all from Amazon. Including XTOOL 401, which scans vehicles of 1996-2016 Vw, Audi, Seat & Skoda, including: Jetta/ Golf/ Beetle/ Touareg/ GTI/ Passat, A1 A3,A4 A6 A8, Q3 Q5 Q7, Seat and Skoda vehicles etc..
It also quickly displays readings for any errors your car may be registering on the dash & allows you to turn off the check engine light (or other errors) if you so choose. Engine, Auto Trans, ABS Brakes, Auto HVAC, Cent.Elect, Airbags, Steering Wheel etc..
However it provides 30% of data then ross tech cable and vcds download can. They have Hex v2, but it’s too much, the simple vag com diagnostic system is suffice. I bought from Total Car Diagnostics.
can this be used to increase temp of the heated seats and steering wheel on my 2019 Q5? Thanks
Yes, some have done it: https://www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=98&t=1848619
Hi,
Can VAG-com 12 able to access 42 Door elect. driver security access?
VAG 18 can. Not 12.
VAGCOM bought on site here, work well. I almost returned it after “No interface found” issue. Total car diagnostics provided solution that instantly worked.
Turns out our car had randomly misfiring issue and the misfire did not come back after about two weeks. Probably just some incorrect gas.
Without the VAG-com cable and it’s VCDS software, I would of had to go to my mechanic each and every time to run a scan. Instead it took about 1 mins to scan, and another 20 seconds to clear the codes.
I knew is working because I have one code that comes up no matter what. It is a radio code that says my sirus is not working. That code came up every time. What a useful diagnostic tool. A money saver for sure! I also have a Volkswagen, and I will use this tool on that as well.
Is it possible to use Vagcom to enable retrofit rear lights to work after fitting?
The car is an A3 S-line (8v) 2014 (which has full LED light set as standard from the audi factory)
The replacement lights are also off an 8v S-line, but the facelift 2016.
The replacement lights will not work if simply swapped.
Will the Vagcom enable them to work as they should?
I believe this can only be done by mechanic.
Will Vag com remove component protection for new/used parts?
I got this VAG-COM unit by RossTech for my son as he invests most of his free time working on European VAG vehicles (including mine). I don’t know the first thing about the mechanics of these car readers/diagnostic tools… but he said it works just like original RossTech $500,
so he was surprised that I got the unit for much cheaper, and can still code cars via included VCDS Windows software.
I assume its a good deal since he researches well and honest in logical valuation of used tools.
I drive an audi A4 sline, i want to upgrade my mmi to have features such as Bluetooth and to activate my navigation! Could vag com help?
Can this be use on a 2018 March RS3 8V? If yes would like to get 1. I’m basically using it for data logging, I supposed it can be done with it? Logging Ign, Boost, AFR, Trim, Fuel pressure & etc?
VAG 18 will work on 2018 March RS3 8V (yes has data logging): https://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/shop/vagcom-vcds-18
Hello TCD Support Professional,
I’m an old retired US Marine from generations of Marines with good friends and memories of the land down under.
I hope my little note finds you and all your mates well today.
I own a 2006 Audi A3, a 2010 Dodge RAM 2500 turbo diesel pickup truck, and 2011 Subaru Forester (Touring) vehicles. I own a laptop PC with Windows 7 ultimate OS as well as an iPad and iPhone with iOS 10x.
My background with automobiles spans from the 60’s to the present. I grew up on a grain and live stock production farm in the mid-western US and worked on heavy equipment, automobiles, and helped an uncle build drag racing fuelers, railers, and street cars. I spent a career as a US Marine developing a low and high tech systems engineering background with vehicles, telecom & IT, weapon systems, etc. Today I generally do routine maintenance on my vehicles, but do not have an interface to gain access to vehicle computers.
Most of what I’ve seen on the market is junk or costs too damn much for me to afford. Then I saw your website today. I admit it brought to mind some dear friends and their families I haven’t seen for years and a local friend from Melbourne who came to the US years ago and remains a dear life friend. Just as your Army saved the life of my father during WW-II, I helped Australian Army and Navy men and their families in my time to help return a favor I can never repay. I know all this seems odd, but our nations and our peoples share a great bond of freedom during peace and war, that is centuries old. I handed down my legacy to my son who became an exchange student ambassador to your great nation in 1993 and spent a year meeting heads of state as well as many wonderful families during his travels. Maybe you can let your mates know there is a yank over here that wish you all well.
Anyway, I’m considering becoming a member / purchasing your application, but I’m confused as to what I have to purchase.
o Will the TOAD support my Dodge Diesel truck and my Subaru Forester?
o Do I need the VAG-COM VCDS 2017 – OBD2 Diagnostic Cable & Software for my 2006 Audi A3 ? Does this software work with TOAD or is it separate?
o Is there a way to talk to a human in Total Car Support ?
Thanks again for your professional time.
Dodge, Subaru: Both are susceptible to not-working. And for Audi, I don’t recommend TOAD, but VAGCOM/VCDS kit: https://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/shop/vagcom-rosstech-vcds
Hey guys, I bought a used VW Touareg 2012
Everything works great and the drive is great just I am facing a small issue.
When I click the Phone hard key, it says “telephone not working”. It was working fine before but now no phone or media streaming. When I go to setup Bluetooth settings and search for devices, it cannot find my phone. My phone can find the car Bluetooth and when I click pair, it asks for pin code and there is no pin code on the screen. I tried 0000 1234 etc.. but nothing. There is also a list of BT devices that I cannot delete. I tried to do a factory reset but nothing happened. I tried to force the system MU 0312 but nothing happened.
Any idea? why I am getting the “telephone not working thing”? Do I need a software update? Which VAG do I need?
I will be grateful if you could help me to solve this problem. Thank you.
1) Dodge Diesel – No. Will need OEM tool for this, as they tend to use (more often then not), proprietary protocols.
2) 2006 Audi A3 – Yes, VCDS/VAGCOM does support this car.
3) TOAD and VAGCOM are totally different products. RossTech VAGCOM specifically focuses on Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda vehicles.
4) We offer email support at totalcardiagnostics.com/support
I find HEXCAN RossTech VAG a basic OBDII reader except it can handle a lot more functions than I thought it would be able to. In fact too much. It can actually scan modules besides the main ECU which is nice because the cheaper ones don’t actually do things like airbag or tire pressure monitoring systems etc. Glad I splurged a little bit more for a better model cause my Golf R has had issues with some other readers in the past. No issues anymore! I just wish it was smaller.. it’s actually quite bulky. But then again the smaller ones I’ve had didn’t have nearly as much function so I guess it makes up for it. Comparing to other vag related tools, I say VAGCOM is years ahead.
RossTech’s VAGCOM reader is a nice scanner/reset device for the money. We found its vcds software can be limited on what it can code, so don’t expect full blown ecu programming solution. Although it’s the fastest solution to coding your VAG Audi, Volkswagen car. Therefore it certainly offers a lot for this price.
Don’t update the VCDS software as per total car diagnostics instructions, else won’t work. If you want full updates, get original VAG-COM from RossTech.
The VCDS software GUI is quite nice and the menus are easy to navigate. It also offers code definitions so you don’t have to seek them and some sensor status data. This will help debug the situation much speedier if you know what values you are looking for.
VAG-COM certainly will definately give you all the parameter information, more then any vag scanner on the market.
Will obd to eth cable work with vcds?
I have a VW Jetta 2007 FSI, not sure if it’s supported under the VW/Bora list od cars. Having some issues with passenger door open warning
I just received my Vag-Com and noticed on here you mention Vag 18 and Vag 12. I haven’t used it yet but my use will be for a 2008 VW Gti, 2009 Audi A3 and a 2011 Audi A5. Is this Vag 12? Why was I not asked what vehicles I would be using it for? How do I know which one I got or is the 12 and/or 18 a choice in the software. Hope that makes sense.
Anything under 2012, VAG 12 is suffice. VAG-COM only needed for Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat cars made after 1 June 2012.
I bought a cable from your company back in 2003. The software was vcds 12.12. At the very bottom of the product information you state:
Future firmware and software updates: If update comes out, you won’t be left in the dark. We’ll immediately give you the update link or instructions. So your tool will always be up to date with current date. *Disclaimer: This only applies if update is actually released by original creators. And/or if it’s possible on this unit. For example, sometimes only way to update is to buy a new version altogether because actual internal hardware has changed from previous version.
Is there an update for my cable. Do I need a new one or can I go to Ross tech and download the latest version?
Thank you.
Need to upgrade to latest by getting new VAGCOM cable. Send support ticket and we’ll send discount coupon for previous customer: http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/support/Tickets/Submit
Hello – What scanner version is needed to use with an Australian VW Touareg 2019 190TD model (“Launch Edition”)? Many thanks.
We have nothing for it yet, as car is too new. Would suggest vag com ross tech from original site.
Hello, have a 2017 Audi at cabriolet. Actually for if. Anyways she wants voice recognition and of course it is not on by default by audi. Been told can turn on using your diagnostics? Any advice before I try it out? She is afraid it will do something to her car? Lol. I said, yeah fix the issue you want! Thanks
I am from India and I want to purchase the VAG-COM for Audi, VW, Skoda. Plz let me know from where should I purchase. Plz mail me the dealer, distributor address if avilable in India or UK.
Regards,
Asad
Sure, just checkout on main shop: http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/shop/vagcom-rosstech-vcds
Shipping VAGCOM to India requires EMS Express shipping option. Choose it end of checkout.
Tried it and glad we ordered it. I don’t even remember what I paid for it because was in a urgent need to scan/repair my Audi. But, this vag-com purchase was worth every penny.
I have two cars that I have had to do considerable amounts of work to, and the reader has helped me along the way. Using it on small cheap Atom Intel processor Win 10 laptop.
Also pleased the OBDII, abs, airbag, immobilizer readings it gives you on screen, you can actually print out the results.
Functionality is moderately simple. With many available buttons and data provided, Vcds program can be overwhelming. But didn’t bother, as I only sought after ABS, general obd and Immobilizer settings.
I’ve had a perplexing problem with the following fault code: 16805 – Catalyst System; Bank 1, P0420 – 35 – 10 – Efficiency Below Threshold – Intermittent.
Because I kept getting this code, I decided to purchase your product to see exactly what the problem was because I didn’t really have any clear signs of a faulty converter (rotten egg smell, power loss) and I didn’t want to replace the part if it was unnecessary. I did notice that I was getting a misfire every once in a while in the last few years and recently I changed all of the plugs and coils (which made the car drive better afterwards). But the P0420 came back so I’m trying to solve this problem once and for all. What prompted me to get the VAG-COM was this VW Vortex post:
https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1265064
I got the scanner and ran all of these tests (multiple times) and everything seems to check out OK. All the sensors read OK and even catalytic converter tests OK. Is it possible to test OK in block 046 and still have a bad converter?
I read that it could be an exhaust leak especially at the clamp joint between the catalytic converter and the front muffler behind the downstream O2 sensor. I visually inspected this point and also listened and felt for a leak but other than the clamp being corroded it seemed fine. Also about 10 years ago the downpipe/catalytic converter rusted through at the flex section near the manifold and I had a replacement of that section welded in. And the last thing that I did was used an infrared thermometer to measure the temperature of the cat at the front and the rear to see if it was hotter in the rear but it was the same temp or lower which would indicate a bad cat but I’m not sure if that test is accurate. The main thing that’s perplexing to me is the VAG-COM block 046 is testing OK. So any help would be tremendously appreciated. I attached some pics to refer to also.
Used the vag scan tool once and found the emissions problem which I fixed myself. A little disappointed in the overwheleming amount of information presented about my VW. But I easily figured it out without studying the instructions. And I did not realize these instruments pretty much look at the government emissions parameters only. Only dealers have the computers which find 100s of other problems (worn plugs, defective heat/AC solenoid, etc). That is why these instruments are universal, and not vehicle-specific. In overal this vag com gives way too much info then most will ever need.
I got the RossTech unit. Tested it and works 100%. Can also code. The VCDS software has tons of buttons which are overwhelming. So best option is to run Auto-Scan, and it’ll take about 10 min. And will provide every possible fault/condition with car. Truly, no greater tool then vag-com, if you have Volkswagen.
Dear Alex,
I am from Singapore and i own an Audi A8 3.2FSI Year of Manufacture 2009. Ever since i bought this car (preowned)in Dec 2016, i never had peace of mind driving it coz it had a number of issues eg there was clicking sound whever i brake, the PRNDS lights are all lited up,slight vibration when vehicle engine is on and when its is stationary. However, the problem that forced me to take the car to the mechanic was due the suspension. One morning i noticed the front left of my car has sunken at the wheels. The mechanic said it was due to a faulty air suspension strut and he suggested i replaced it. However, even after replacing it it did solve the problem as the strut was in a raised position but its unable to be adjusted to comfortable, lift or dynamic positions. After weeks in the workshop i decided to take to another mechanic who says that it has got to do with the relay. Anyway to cut a long story short. many parts were changed incuding the valve block the air suspension pump, height sensors including the ecu as the mechanic claimed it has been changed. However inspite all these and after changing 3 mechanics over a period of 3 months they still could not solve the suspension problem. The amber light at the dash board is always lighted up.
Frustrated, i took back the back my vehicle and continued driving it as i did not want to leave it in the workshop anymore. I used it for almost 3 months when two days ago i noticed a rattling sound coming from the front left hand near the wheels. And intermitently,i could hear sound of high pressured air gushing out whenever i start my engine and it will last for a couple of minutes before dying out. I took to a mechanic A VAG Mechanic with 30 years experience in reparing audi and volkswagen cars. He plugged in his diagnostic tools to check whats the problem. However, he pointed to me that he is unable to check the error coz the system is showing “error in basic settings” he tried a number of times to log in to the car’s electonic system but it kept returning as “error in basic settings”. Due to time constraint he asked me to return to his workshop again on Monday. Now i really need to know what is exactly wrong with my vehicle. Secondly i need your learned opinion ..is there anyway to rectify the electronic fault that is showing in the laptop as “error in basic settings”. In desperate need of help.
“Error in basic setting” won’t show for the entire scan. Only for a particular module. I’m not sure how to diagnose this via VAGCOM, but sounds like will need a different scanner, or sensor is damaged, hence can’t read the value.
I am attempting to access the headlight range control (group 55). New to vagcom scanner….Audi S4 2005 4.2, manufactured in 2004, VIN waupl68e95a098310. Several questions:
1. What will be better: to buy a USB vag com scanner and vcds downloads software ( my laptop has win 10) or to look for a hex can interface cable?
2. What protocols should be used with my car: “standard” OBD2 VAG COM (software to be audi a5 vcds compatible) or CAN-BUS?
3. May I trust ebay info or should I look for more reliable (= expensive) sources for a better vag com list?
4) Should be able to list as many ross tech error codes as possible.
Should also support son’s vag com audi a6 2005 for ross tech abs coding.
My fuel pump belt tensioner broke up and slackened the timing belt. I have timed the fuel pump to the specified dial gauge amount and the local garage says the timing is audibly not correct .. the motor starts instantly and pulls really well with no smoke . what can I do . I do not want to damage my engine. Was wondering if vw vagcom can help on my Volkswagen? I assume it comes with volkswagen software as I saw vcds downloads elsewhere.
I’ve bought 2 competing lower-priced vag com audi scanners from eBay, that did not work as expected, before purchasing the vagcom scanner. It works very well, and was thrilled seeing it successfully connect to 2016 VW Beetle. Was able to turn of SRS light off. I made the purchase only after inquirting via email support whether it would do the job, and the positive response came quickly (overnight from Australia). Courteous, prompt and correct.
Thanks. Most comprehensive article on using vag. Can also see on rtech forums for more info.
Why are people so hyped about these diagnostics kits when all they do is reveal bunch of data? Honestly, what are you going to do with it? I read the Amazon reviews. Point is, even after fancy data codes are shown, owner must still fix broken part themselves. Most people are not willing to do that, as they’re working.
I have a 2003 B6 Audi A4 Cabriolet
Vin Code has digits 8H3 which your compatibility chart says requires HEX, KEY/K11 Interface.
Car has a fault where O/S Dip Beam stays on even when car switched off & locked.
Web research suggest faulty Central Electrical module.
I want to buy a second hand replacement module to replace original.
I understand that I will need to:
1) Read & record the values in the original module.
2) Remove original module
3) Install used module.
4) Recode used module to match original.
Wondering if rosstech vcds can do it, and what is best vagcom for this job. I know there’s different tools/downloads, but don’t wish to realize there’s a better audi scan tool.
I am looking at the two VAG-COM cable + software bundles you have available for purchace. I am wondering why and if I should go for the version 18 or the version 12. And why should I get one above the other.
I mainly want to be able to change the breakpads and do normal service on my car by myself and not have to go to the mechanic. I would also like to “play” with som settings in the car to make it remeber the setting for heating my bum and the like. My parrents also have a VW Passat AWD from 2016 so I might help them sometimes to.
We recently bought from your website this device: VAGCOM 18.9 USB Cable & VCDS 18.9 Original VAG-COM Software (Audi, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen Cars)
We tried to read the code of a 2019 Volkswagen T6 2.2 Turbodiesel. The T6 model has the same ECU of the T5 models (older). It worked.
Had the rear brakes on my 2011 VW Touareg TDI replaced and the place could not get the EPB to work. I have an Autel EBS301 and it will not allow me to open, close or grind in the EPB. Is there a basic product that will work rather than taking this to the dealer?
hi,
by using this, can i do ecu, immobilizer adaptation for vw, audi
Regarding the vagcom scanner, my 2007 Beetle convertible does not have CAN for the controller located at address 46, which means the long code is greyed out.
I’m considering buying the VAG COM 18 or the TOAD software for my 06 audi a4.
I need to change the vin on the airbag module since I installed a used air bag module from a junkyard vehicle and I also need to do a transmission adaption process.
I would also like to do some programming on various modules if necessary or if called for after or part of a repair.
Can the VCDS software do this and can it do all the functions that VAG COM 18 is capable of. (We know of other vag solutions on amazon, but honestly, all seem to have copied rosstech vagcom)
My friend he have a 2011 VW Tiguan 5n TDI, has a check engine light and a flashing glow plug light, overall performance not very good seems not to pull very well when driving up hill. Engine seems to run rough (miss firing jerky) will cut out when stopped at traffic lights but will restart straight away and run perfect after that, told him he needs to get it checked out by VCDS i cant check it for him as my cable hasnt arrived yet from you, what advice can you give to what his problem may be.
Hi, will this show me the true % of the fuel pump timing (torsion). I would need to adjust mine as I think it is retarded.
VW Golf iv 2003 1.9 tdi atd engine
I need to replace the dsg dual clutch assembly on a 2006 Jetta TDI, this should be able to perform the service function to relearn and adapt the clutches right?
Just got a VAG COM to reset the service interval on my 2018 A4. Having trouble getting it to reset. Any step by step guidance would be helpful. Thank you!
I was able to use your VAGCOM software and cable to successfully clear the warning light for worn brake pads, however as soon as I hit enter the rear spoiler warning light came on. I do not have a spoiler and I can not find where to turn off the warning light.
I needed a method to analyze different modules on Volkswagen. With your traditional OBD2 reader it only has capacity to read the engine. Which I thought was sufficient.
But when found need to analyze problem with anti-lock brakes, the found limitation of generic car diagnostic tools. Decided to get VAGCOM from this website. Seriously, it’s a tool with more features a ordinary car driver can ever use.
The included VCDS software immediately detects car it’s VIN and model. It’s licensed for life.
Hi Alex a few months ago purchased Diagnostic cable and software VCDS 18 invoice number 31724 . Its been great already picked up a problem up and have fixed it. So thank you.
Now for my new question (Just for your info I am an x licensed “A” Grade Automotive engineer albeit many years ago. )
I arrived home from a trip to Melbourne on the weekend car went excellent no issues at all. On the Sunday afternoon after the vehicle had been sitting overnight in my garage i went to start it and nothing happened to save time I have attached a link to you tube which shows exactly what its doing almost to the T. https://youtu.be/scXS_XzBujI
As yet I havnt tried the fix present their. I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter. Thank you.
My two main needs (MK6 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI 2014) are the ability to read transmission fluid temperature for the DSG service (auto trans/measuring blocks/group 19 in VCDS) and the ability to cycle the fuel pump (fuel supply pump activation in VCDS) when I replace the fuel filter. Can your tool do both of these? And which version do I need? Thanks!
I am looking for something that will activate fuel pumps on 2013 VW Polo TDI to prime system after fuel filter change.
I didn’t wanna pay much on VW/Audi pro scanner kind of scanner, so I chose RossTech based VAG-COM as it clearly seems to have most features, but also discounted on Total car diagnostics site.
Now the fact proves that it’s really worthwhile! The ross tech abs coding via hex can interface cable and vcds download software, has been worth the price alone.
Capable of working on many different brands cars like 2012 Volkswagen, audi a6 2005, audi a5 and 2006 Bentley. Only plug it on my car, all I need to do is to press the OBD-II button in VCDS software and analyze the data it shows me.
And determine if there is need to have car served at auto service center or I can get it done on my own.
On the other hand, if there is something I can’t fix, I will print the data via the reporting feature and then consult my friends for professional tips.
Its smog check factor is what I usually need. Where I live in has required an emission test for vehicle, so it has to get that information to ensure there is no problems which may cause emission problems and if so I would be fined.
Since then, it helps me get rid of serious fines. There is no issue with this gadget at all.
It helped me understand what’s wrong with my car, and it tells me if I need to go to a mechanic. If so, I can tell them outright what the problem is without needing to figure it out for a long while.
It’s a good tool to help you make detection on your vehicle and enhance your vehicle safety as well as your security. IT’s a fantastic volkswagen software but also accurate error codes reader.
I have a 2014 Passat 2.5L. What VAG system would I use?
What do you mean by this? You’d use whichever system you’d like to scan inside the vcds software. IF ABS, then click on ABS button.
Wondering if VAgcom allow me to change computer values? Such as the idel rpm and on off of auto lock… Etc some values in my computer car?
You mean coding? Yes, included VCDS software supports long/short coding.
Can 2020 Audi Q3 use this for diagnostic and coding?
Yes, but only works on original RossTech at their website.
I am interested in your product. I have a 2008 Audi A6 Quatto 3.2L and a 2003 BMW X5, 3.0L.
For the Audi, I need to change the brakes and need to release the electronic parking brake to do so.
* Will your software allow me to do this?
For the BMW, my radio stopped working after I changed the battery. I think the car is in “Transport Mode” and therefore has shut off the radio.
* Will your software allow me to take the car out of “Transport Mode”
Will your software cover both cars?
Or is there an additional charge for each make & model?
Will this work on a Mk6 2013 jetta tdi? Want to turn off seat belt chime and read engine codes.
VAG-COM will work on Mk6 2013 jetta tdi. Many customers have same model.
Will this work on Seat Ibiza 2018 01/07/2018 engine 1.0 petrol Mpi Technology
Works.
Hi I’ve just fitted powerfold up mirrors on my 2015 Audi Rs3 and need to code them to work on the key when locking ,will this software do the job ?
Regards kevin
For this single item (esp key locking), rather take to mechanic.
hi,
will it work with Audi Q5 2017 komfort?
Yes it will.
I purchased a Ross-Tech VCDS Software (VAG-COM Diagnostics for Audi & Volkswagen Cars): V18.9 from you in June this year (order reference above).
I have been having issues with the ESP light coming on my VW Golf and having checked the fault codes, have replaced the Lateral Acceleration sensor.
This needs to be reset as there is a reading even when the car is stationery and on level ground.
I’ve followed the instructions which I found on the ross-tech website and have cross referenced that against instructions on an Audi TT forum which gave the same instructions (I’ve added a photo of the instructions too):
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1J)_Brake_Electronics_(MK20)#Basic_Setting
As you can see from another attached photo, the existing reading is -4.39 so it definitely needs resetting however, when working through the instructions, I don’t seem to be able to Activate the Basic Setting correctly – mine doesn’t show up with the option of [ON/OFF/Next].
Instead the Adjustment Status shows ‘Not Possible’. Any solutions, welcome.
I would like to be able to apply the accelerator while holding the brake without the car holding back. How can I change this feature in my 2018 vw golf comfortline?
Sorry not sure how possible. Probably needs recoding as it’s going against car’s inbuilt protection.
I bought RossTech’s VCDS/VAG-COM package to clear a airbag light on my 2016 Passat TDI. I just figured for less than a hundred bucks I would give it a try.
Dealerships want at least $60 to check and clear light. The vagcom cable scanner worked great!
So in reality it cost me $97 and I now have a reader/coder tool that can do more than just airbags.
It was easy to use and worked without issues on Windows. Again this is the Volkswagen car. I recommend anyone this vag scantool to anyone with a Volkswagen vehicle. It’s a great value to have this in my toolbox.
Does this VCDS/vag-com allow you to relearn/program a crankshaft position sensor?
Was just wondering how to use our vag com diagnostic system. Thanks for visual pictures as they really help giving context to using VCDS with so many buttons, where to start!
We’re using vagcom for both audi and volkswagen.
Will this code out the “warning oil sensor workshop” amber warning in the instrument panel of a Tiguan
Hi I have a 2007 Audi a4 convertible, and i would like to know if the (VAG-COM diagnostic for Audi would be able to tell me whats wrong with my convertible top getting hung up in the open position and not finishing the cycle thanks Jeff.
Bought it, and VAG COM scanner is a fine tool; does everything as advertised, and does it well.
The included vcds software works on our fleet of VW and Audi cars. I bought this particular one because I’m on a online forum where professional mechanics talk about their tools, and this is the one they like for their HOME use. Some have used vag com scanners from Amazon, but they’re more-less duplicates of each other.
Ross-Tech’s vcds scan tool was here since (I believe early 2000). As far as I know, the only thing it won’t do is some modules which aren’t supported by car model. Otherwise best audio and vw scan tool we’ve owned.
I have a 2018 vw golf tsi. I would like to do some tuning. Is there a link you could post me to take me to the right place to get everything I will need
Thank you
Hi
2011 Golf 1.2T DSG. Can this software tool reset DSG after clutch replacement etc?
Cheers
2000 VW Passat 2.8L manual transmission. Had the ECU checked and says it’s fine, was told that it could be a software issue in the car. Has only 20 mph, refurbished engine, new duel catalytic converters, still doesn’t fire up. Any suggestions what to use? Had original VW/Audi engine changed for a VW engine. Thank you
Does this VCDS/vag-com allow you to relearn/program a crankshaft position sensor? Also, it’s for a 2011 Audi A5 Quattro.
I recently hit a deer and insurance totaled me car out because of the airbag deployment. It is legal where I am from to drive without airbags, although not recommended. I have a 2017 Audi A3. Would this tool be able to not only clear the warning for airbag but reprogram so that it doesn’t keep warning?
Hi, would I be able to program keys to a Audi A3 using this? I have a autel IM508 already I was wondering if I could program keys through VAGCOM?
