  1. I believe one of products here may be knock-off obd-ii scanner products, but it did work. I read other unbiased reviews before and after purchase but for less than 50 bucks I was sold. After it arrived in mfg packaging I opened it and immediately read small instruction booklet and connected it to my 2000 Mazda millenia S. I was impressed how quickly the scanner ran through its own linking and readiness tests before it arrives at the home screen of the obd scanner. Less than a minute after tapping the enter button it had pulled all engine codes to reveal I had a blown solenoid.code 1526 showed bad vent valve.I changed the valve and my car doesn’t stall anymore. Even though product is quite similar to other name brand scanner it does perform well.

  2. The way an OBD2 scanner works depends on its intended purpose. If reader/scanner is a code reader, then it can only clear & read fault codes (MIL). If you bought a scan tool, then it can view live and stored data and do lots of other features.

    All OBD-2 scanners offer generally the same fundamental functionalities (like reading fault codes). But some scanners are also designed to check pending codes, provide access to more information (like Dynometer), set up PIDs, and customize a list of parameters.

    Most vehicle drivers enjoy using an OBD2 code reader even if they don’t know it’s full intended use (EG: it’s fully used in workshops to help customers drive car safely on road). They expect that the OBD2 system can handle all issues without their physical intervention.

    Even though this exceptional car system has self-correct features, it still can’t resolve all the car issues. This is when an OBD2 scanner comes in. This device enables you to know if there is something wrong with the car.

    The so-called check engine headlight or malfunction indicator light (MIL) is OBD2’s standard language. When this lamp is ENABLED, it means that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) cannot decode an error message sent by a particular car sensor.

    The PCM warns you that there’s an anomaly with your vehicle. Whether the code is a signal for loss of power or increase in fuel consumption, the OBD2 scanner can read it. The PCM stores the fault message, and then, the scanner presents the trouble-code to you.

  3. It’s an education just owning this obd-ii scanner. You’d be surprised how many things can cause the cars MIL check engine light to turn on. My wife’s vehicle had a code that translated to an out of range reading between oxygen sensors before and after the catalytic converter which could mean either sensor was bad or a problem with the converter or a bad connection or a bad computer, or something else.

    As you can see, the obd scanner isn’t going to fix your car, it’s just going to give vague clues. On the other hand, knowing this problem light is intermittent means it’s not a break down in the middle of the night 800 km from home situation. Plus I have a limited knowledge that the mechanic doesn’t know I have when I actually do take it in for fix. If he tries to sell me a converter without testing the sensors first I’ll know he’s either incompetent or overcharging.

  4. Onboard Diagnostics II (OBD-II scanner) is a standardized system that onboard computers in cars and trucks use for self-diagnostics and reporting. This system grew out of Californa Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations, and it was implemented with specifications that were developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

    Unlike earlier, OEM-specific OBD-1 systems, OBD-2 systems use the same communication protocols, code designations, and connectors from one manufacturer to another. This allows a single OBD scanner to provide access to the data that these systems are capable of providing across all makes and models of vehicles produced since 1996, which was the first model year that OBD-2 was required across the board.

  8. Ok, so I was a little unsure about this because it was so cheap. This worked correctly out of the box. I plugged it into my merc. I then turned the ignition on without starting it. I turned on Bluetooth phone on and connected to the device. I opened the OBD Jscan software on my phone and unlocked the App for my merc Vin. It cost approximately 90$. With the app and this device I was able to reprogram my speedometer to my bigger tires and change tons of other things. Overall this setup was fantastic compared to the overpriced programmers. This is a must have.

  9. Tried Autel obd-ii scanner on my own car that did not have a check engine light on to see how it reacted. Then tried it on a 2008 Mustang with a check engine light on and it indicated an open oxygen sensor on bank 1 sensor 2. Crawled under car and found the sensor was un-plugged. Re plugged sensor turned check engine light off with code reader, and all is well. This is a very nice obd-ii scanner.

  10. The ANCEL AD310 obd-ii scanner works greater than I imagined. Several other reviewers said that the obd-ii scanner didn’t work on their Toyota cars.

    I have two Toyotas and it seemed to work fine. I was able to connect and read data from my 2007 Tundra and 2012 Camry. The obd-ii scanner was able to clear a fault code and turn off the MIL (check engine light) on the Tundra. However, it is not able to turn off the “Maintenance due soon” light on the Camry.

  11. Innova obd-ii scanner works great! Used it on Chrysler, Nissan, and Subaru. I was really impressed with the detail fault information the scanner provides.

    Well worth the price and saves me a trip to someone else to pull codes and then they have to plug device up just to pull off codes.

    Innova one gives you all the information on your device at the comfort of your home/business.

    The only thing I’d like to see added is a obd scanner for cars with bar codes inside door, to automatically pull car information. This would save alot of time from having to manually enter information.

  12. The car is a chevy tracker. I have 3 of them…..1996, 2000, 2003. Also i
    have a 1973 chev class C RV that im pulling the sb 350 replacing it with
    the 5.9 cummins diesel. Not restored but also a 1953 Studebaker Starliner
    Hardtop.

    Between my brother and i we have an old pontiac station wagon we
    call the wagon burner. Its got a 7.5 L burning alcohol.

    Another 7.5 with a old school puffer on top.

    Im about to purchase one of Roterex,s blowers that i may install on the
    2003 chevy tracker with a purposly built 2 L

    Hmm im always building engines and as of late we just fabricated an engine
    test stand. Besides i have always fixed cars all my life since 8 years old.

It is an enhanced OBD II and EOBD scanner that covers all OBD2 protocols and all OBD diagnostic services, therefore it will work with almost any vehicle equipped with OBD-2 and view more powertrain diagnostic data than similar obd2 scan tool I’ve tried, including Autel obd-ii scanners.

  14. Purchased a few other cheaper wifi/bluetooth obd-ii scanners. Quickly returned them to purchase Innova 3040. You get what you pay for and no other obd scanner compares to this when it comes to ones that connect to your phone.

    This obd-ii is too perfect. Supports a long list of vehicles and the obd scanner is constantly being improved and updated to support more.

    Fast connection and great code reading ability. If you are a mechanic or even DIY and are looking for a high quality but portable scantool that you can take with you to read codes or look at live data look no further.

    The live data on screen is responsive to 0.4sec. There is a small lag sometimes with live data, but its nothing noticeable to most. Does not support all live displays on all cars but typically has the important ones. But as stated they keep updating the OBD-II scanner. I am very happy with this.

  15. Some of the information on your website indicates that the TOAD software; “Supports many older OBD-I…. ” cars. I have a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette, 5.7, L83 engine. The ECM chip is a 1226026. I do have a diagnostic cable to connect to my PC. Does the TOAD OBD1 software provide a display on the computer similar to the OBD2 screen displays that are shown on your web site? What kind of OBD1 information will display on the computer screen?

  16. This is my obd-ii scanner review on the Autel obd scanners. The MIL check engine light had just came on on 2009 Chevrolet Silverado and I was in need of finding the problem myself before escorting vehicle for its yearly inspection test.

    I know some auto parts like Auto Zone and Advanced Auto parts do these tests for free but it all depends on whether they’re “not too busy” to assist. So I took a leap of faith and purchased a obd-ii scanner. Since the price was almost 1/3 the price compared to the ones being sold at these local auto parts. I must admit my first impressions were pretty sweet. I thought I would be getting some cheap device with some low resolution display, but to my delight, it is modern high pixels.

    As soon as I plugged the obd scanner into vehicle’s DTC port, I ran a diagnose test the scanner returned with three P codes and a brief description of the issue. Of course I wasn’t expecting the obd-ii scanner to provide full, complete details of each code as this is often found in much, much more expensive scanners. But at least it provided me with a start on where to look for the problem as this information comes directly from car’s ECM (engine control module).

    It also outputted other information like as on-board monitoring, data streams for live information of your car’s engine and O2 sensor tests, although this feature, unfortunately, is not available for my 10-year old semi-trailer, which is such a shame since this appears to be one of the problems!

    The user’s manual does an excellent job in detailing each and every feature available on this obd scanner, which helps a lot if you’re not too familiar with this type of car obd2 diagnostics.

    I also like the scanner provides information about battery’s voltage which can help determine whether it’s time for replacement before it leaves the “poor” driver stranded on the road.

    There are so many functionalities this obd-ii scanner provides which can be a bit overwhelming for the average citizen, but again, go over the user’s guide to understand more of what you’re doing or attempting to do.

    Overall, I definitely, definitely recommend this OBD scanner to anyone who is looking to buy one – but do not want to spend tons of money on it, specially if all you want it for is to read the DTC fault codes and be able to delete them (hence, turn off the check engine light without having to remove your battery’s cables).

    It does not feel low-grade at all, it has so many features and will most likely be more than sufficient for the average DYI’er. It can even work for a more professional mechanics as they may understand better of all the more professional features.

  17. Innova aorks as advertised. It gives my 2005 F150 several gauges I wanted for towing. Specifically, I now have cylinder head temperature, coolant temperature, transmission temperature (at two different locations), and torque converter slip. These are the critical gauges for towing a load close to the manufacturer’s max tow limit. So far, can’t get engine oil temperature — will keep trying.

    It does not run the battery down in any noticeable way when the truck is left sitting for a week with the obd-ii scanner installed. The obd-2 scan tool seems to go to sleep after a while and only reawakens when the truck is started.

  18. I bought the little blue ELM327 little obd-ii scanner, and think it’s very useful for day to day scans. It is a great amount of technology in a small unit, for just over $20.

    I decided to use the obd scanner with DashCommand on Android. The obd-ii scanner paired with the phone after I found the code in the tiny instruction sheet that was packed with the unit.

    After establishing a profile for my vehicle in the obd2 app, I took the obd scanner for a ride. It performed impeccably. I was quite surprised to find that the setup found more information about my vehicle than I expected in the on-board computers, like my VIN.

    I did observe that the display on my mobile is too small to be of value as extra gauges. I was wishing that I had a tablet rather than a phone for on-the-road display. Don’t be afraid to give this obd-ii scanner a try. Compared to other OBD2 scanners that are wired, this is an incredible bargain.

I have used LANUCH CREADER 4001 OBD2 SCANNER [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WP4KY24] for a long time, it saved me time and money, which is so great.This scan tool has many functions in such a cheap price. It can support turning off Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), reading Freeze Frame and data stream and erasing DTCs, I/M Readiness Status. I appreciated that Amazon can provide me with such a wonderful product. When the engine light comes on, I can fix it without anybody else. I am so happy with it.

    • I repair cars for a living. Factory scan tool is too unaffordable. But a convenient lightweight obd scan tool is always in my pocket. Read & clear codes, generic ECM data, & pretty well decoded mode6 data. Scantool OBDLink obd-ii scanner cost me less than twenty beans.

  20. Here is a new scan tool for me, the Creader 7001 by Launch. Sells online for around 120 dollars.Works on ’96 and newer cars with OBDII, which is the standard on most cars here in the US.It is fantastic. Beyond the normal tests, it can do O2 sensor reading and test functions, as well as clearing of most trouble codes, I like it and am happy to recommend people to get one.

Plug the OBD2 cable into the 16-pin data connector of vehicles, then the tool screen will light up. Since I bought it, I don’t worry about the light on when I was driving. It has more functions than common code reader. The oil reset, EPB , SAS, BMS, DPF reset, ABS bleeding, exhaust the air of the brake pads with this OBD2 scanner to ensure the driving safety. That’s really useful. By the way, the package is very awesome, scanner, OBDII Connector Cable, SD card, USB cable, carrying bag, instruction within it are all well. I purchased this diagnostic obd-ii scanner to keep in my vehicle so when I go on short road trips and something goes wrong I don’t have to waste money by paying someone to fix my car, not even being sure what all is wrong with it.   23. Too many of the features said vehicle not supported which was not expected sense it is a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L. It’s not a new vehicle so I would expect things like the O2 sensor option to work. Otherwise it’s not bad. I’ve tried innova can & obd ii scan tool but didn’t work either. Later discovered dodge in overal has poor “can and obdii scan tool ” compatability with any tool you throw at it.

  24. When shopping for obd-ii scanner, I find online opinions/reviews like this are insufficient. Because usually the customer is uninformed of different kinds of obd scanners. EG: There is general OBD-II and manufacturer ones like Tech-II or SnapOn, which car manufacturers contribute to. Thus before getting yourself a scanner for obd-ii purposes, first read the purpose and benefits and drawbacks of scanning on your own.

  25. Bought obd-ii scanner as I had a confusing array of warnings coming up on my Mercedes – which were affecting the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), hence the control of the car.

    The fault could have been with a wheel speed sensor or it could have been the DSC/ABS control unit. The difference in cost ranging from $200to $2000 for fixing!!

    Trouble was, I didn’t know where the fault actually was and I really didn’t want to put the car into a Merc service centre and potentially get the run round and a very big bill.

    So, after some research, opted for this little obd beauty scanner and I am so glad I did. It’s not the cheapest, but the cheaper variants out there tend to only do the engine management codes and not the additional ones that I needed.

  26. Very useful when it comes to diagnosing performance issues and fault codes. One can easily see what your vehicle’s computer sees and understand why it is making that noise, odor or flashing the light. It pays for itself because of saved hours of investigating it yourself. If nothing else mechanics of engine are understood better.

    • Scanner still needs person’s participation to fix the problem in the vehicle. A software telling there is problem with computer is one thing. But actually doing hard word of repairing it, is another. Scan tools, as good as they are, in most cases are mere novelties.

  27. I am having an issue with the ABS triggering everytime I brake on a 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe and there are no warning lights on. I need to see live data of the wheel speed sensors to see which wheel is giving me trouble. Is there any obd-ii scanner which has this capability? Ideally a professional grade obd scanner, as interested in quality over price.

  28. Connected up no problem to my laptop and Vauxhall Zafira 1.9 CDTI and has revealed the cause of my MIL light to be an air intake leak.

    All I have to do now is find out where the leak is. Its obviously not a perminent leak as having reset the code it hasn’t come back on.

    Its a very complex program you have developed so I now need to spend some time exploring all its features. obd scanner is money saver.

  29. In reading through your troubleshooting section, I found the following information:

    Misfires can be seen by observing a secondary parade pattern that shows the firing lines for all the cylinders on one trace. The peak firing voltage for a misfiring cylinder with a shorted plug or plug wire will be lower than the others. But don’t forget that low compression and an overly rich fuel condition can also cause the same kind of readings.

    My question is how can I see/assess this using the TOAD software or FORscan? I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

  30. Wish to know if obd-ii scanner will help this scenario: I installed a new battery and alternator in my truck. Its running pretty good. While the engine is running at idle the battery guage in the instrument cluster is reading 14 volts(even while accessories are operating and driving around).

    But the display UNDER the battery gauge are constantly flashing “battery not charging”.

    I disconnected the negative battery cable while the engine was running and the engine kept running without stopping. I tried to resetting the ECU. Is there a specific method you need to follow to reset the ECU for this specific vehicle via obd scanner?

  33. Almost all obd-ii scanners are generally similar. Let me start off by saying I have a 2009 GMC Sierra. These obd scanners results may vary depending on your make of vehicle. I have only used it on my vehicle. OBD scantool is worth the money though. Connected to my vehicle easily, quickly and flawlessly following the provided manuals instructions. The product is simple to use and was able to read trouble codes, provide quick information on the trouble codes and delete the codes all very easily. The menu layout on the screen is easy to understand and I had no trouble figuring out how to do what I needed.

  34. The advantage of OBD-II scanner is the simple Plug and Play ability, for eg:

    Unlike using a manufacturer specific scan tool or vehicle communication software, one does not have to select the vehicle make, year or model.

    Also the communication protocol can be automatically detected by the scan tool software.

    And depending on the ECM and amount of parameters selected, data update rates may vary.

    By using functions as Custom Data List and Manual Select PID in Service $01, sometimes data update rates may be higher than with manufacturer specific software. This can be helpful in finding intermittent signal glitches.

    Lastly, the data and monitors that are not described in the OBD2 standards are filtered out, although they are selectable.

  35. I initially bought car scan to clear my check engine light so I could pass my emissions test for my 2011 Suburban (it functioned!), and I also used it to diagnose what was wrong with my vehicle BEFORE I took it into the workshop.

    This assists me save money and eliminate shady auto repair people trying to sell more. I was able to show them my codes and eliminate the $250 cost just for them to diagnose what was incorrect with vehicle.

    Great scanner car to have and excellent value for the money, and it will save you money down the road.

  36. Car scanning technology has certainly progressed. However we find car ecm scanners are basically still (more or less) same as 10 years ago. Also we haven’t found any road vehicle scanner that can read Tesla vehicles or purely electric. Although hybrid works 50% of time.
