What Is Traction Control System

Traction Control System. This is a question that will most likely catch your attention when you talk about cars. That is because it is the only place where it will mostly feature due to its use and technological design. In order to clearly understand what is traction control system (TCS), it is important to try and explain it in context to a moving car.

According to the design of many cars, when the vehicle is in motion, there are a series of events that take place to ensure that the vehicle remains stable as well as easy to steer. Skidding is one aspect that raises course for concern when driving. When the vehicle skids, it most often does so because there is a problem related to traction. It is for this reason that the automobile manufacturers had to design a system to counter the problem.

The main purpose of these systems is to help stabilize the vehicle during a spinning session so that it can continue to move in a coordinated manner. When a car is trying to move on a slippery surface as is often the case during snow or when you drive on an earth road when it is wet, the wheels have a rough time directing the power to drive due to the slippery surface and the result is a skidding effect.

It is in this moment that the systems come into great use. If you are keen enough when driving, you will notice that the wheels will tend to spin in an uneven manner with one side spinning faster than the other. Due to such effects, the vehicle may swerve from side to side causing difficulty in steering the vehicle.

During a drive through such slippery and wet surfaces, the vehicle often has lots of problems in directing the drive power in the right direction to push the vehicle forward or backwards in the right manner. The main purpose of the technology is to try and balance the power between the two opposing wheels by selectively applying the brakes to the particular wheel that is spinning.

By doing this, the power is directed to the wheel that seems to be converting the drive power well so that it can eliminate the waste that would be occasioned by the skidding wheel that would force the vehicle to loose direction. By continuously applying the brakes appropriately when necessary, the vehicle can be able to continue moving on the slippery surface without the driver having to make a lot of personal effort to overcome the skidding problem.

This is a feature that has been designed and most if not all the modern vehicles are fitted with the same technology to enhance easy manipulation and control regardless of the truck conditions. While many may believe that the technology will help their vehicle to gain enough power to steer out of sticky and muddy or snowy truck conditions, this is not true as it does not improve the power of the car.

What is important to note when seeking to understand what is traction control system is that it only helps in balancing the wheels so that it reduces the unbalanced spinning that the wheels may experience when on a slippery road surface.
