Jaguar is a British multinational car manufacturer that was initiated in the year 1922 as Swallow Sidecar Company.

The founders, William Lyons and his partner William Walmsley were both motorcycle fanatics.

So, they started the Swallow Sidecar Company and specialized in making motorcycle sidecars.

The first of the Jaguar car was witnessed in 1935, which was the SS Jaguar, a groundbreaking model and the first of many to come.

Second came the SS Jaguar 2 ½ litre sports saloon in 1937 which had a small and sleek design just like a Sedan.

There was also a replica of the new model, the first of four doors that was an open two-seater sports model. It was named SS Jaguar 100 and it had a 3 ½ liter engine.

The Swallow Sidecar Company was transformed in 23rd March, 1945 and the name changed to Jaguar Cars Limited.

The company was dedicated to providing quality cars with a strong built body and great features.

Around this time Jaguar made connections with other companies that would provide them with materials to manufacture their cars.

As of 1948, Jaguar started to produce different car series models which clearly defined the brand and their products.

Their megastar sports car series were; the Jaguar XK120 (1948-1954), the Jaguar XK140, (1954-1957), the Jaguar XK150 (1957-1961).

Next came the Jaguar E-Type Series that was the make from 1961-1975.

Take into account that Jaguar was making sports cars, then they must have been making real quality cars that were durable and reliable.

Most importantly though, it showed that they were dedicated in satisfying their customers and building their brand reputation.

They worked under the mantra of “Grace”, “Space” and “Pace”. In 1966, Jaguar and BMC came together and formed British Motor Holdings (BMH).

This was in consideration of the acquiring of steel material that was used in manufacturing the body of their vehicles and in prospects to Jaguar Cars Limited future.

In 1967, BMH merged with Leyland Motor Corporation Limited and it saw the birth of British Leyland Motor Corporation in 1968.

In 1984, Jaguar Cars Limited withdrew from the corporation to seek independence in the private arena.

The man in charge back then, Sir John Egan was the one behind the success of Jaguar production in privatization and had identified the problems holding back the company’s success.

He worked on the basis of quality control, delayed delivery of cars and poor productivity.

In 1989, Ford made Jaguar an offer to buy their shares and the deal was closed 1999 and become part of the larger car manufacturing group that Ford was cementing.

Under Ford, jaguar barely made profits, but they expanded their range of cars with the likes of the S-type and the X-type series.

Ford later on sold Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors, which was an Indian car manufacturing group. Jaguar has hear a good round of years and bad ones as well.

The brand was once well known in the British zone and their cars were highly valued as classy and very versatile.

Currently, there are a number of modern makes of Jaguar cars which include the F-type, the XE, the XF, the XJ and R models.

Common Jaguar Problems

Purchasing any Jaguar car is a good investment deal as most of their cars are stylish and good rides.

However, they also have a few hitches here and there that are likely to develop over the years.

Jaguar car repair manuals are ideal in helping you identify possible cases of problems you are likely to encounter with the car and how to rectify that.

These issues are more persistent in older cars but there are nothing that cannot be solved with a mere repair or part replacement.

The most common problems you are likely to encounter with a Jaguar make include:

  1. Rear suspension: this problem is common with the Jaguar X-type model and XF model where the suspension wears and tears with time. This issue is not hard to ignore as you will occasionally hear some knocking noises especially on a rough road or bump.
In the worst case scenario, the rear suspension may decay due to exposure to unfavorable conditions that affects it leading to the decay. If your car has the suspension problem, take it for servicing and find a repair part to fix the issue completely.
  2. Windscreen wiper failure: this is not an entirely huge issue, but it can be a problem during the rainy and snowy season if you must travel with your car. Windscreen wiper failure is often related to the Jaguar XF model as they wear out with time. So, if you are planning on owning the car for a few years, you need to be prepared how to handle the issue.
The most common measure to solve this problem is by replacing the wipers. Ensure you purchase quality ones that will serve for a little while longer before they also need to be repaired.
  3. Oil leaks: oil leakage can be very dangerous because oil is highly flammable which can lead to a whole new issue. The Jaguar XJS has the common problem of oil leaks and have seen most of the owners complain a lot. You will definitely not an oil leak and the minute you do so, you need to seek assistance there and then.
When the XJS model was produced (2012-2013), some of them were returned to solve the oil leakage issue among other problems related to the engine. This might have been due to a poor production but once the issue is all solved, the car is quite a brilliant model.

The problems the Jaguar models exhibit are not peculiar and are common among other car brands.
