Audi Automotive Repair Manuals

Interesting Facts About Audi You Probably Don’t Know – Common Problems – and PDF Manuals for Download…

Audi is currently beaming in the spotlight for its long period of stability and profitability. Its latest models, the R8 and RS7 are simply loved by car enthusiasts all over the world. But the road has not always been smooth for this German company.

Audi took various forms since its inception more than 100 years ago before it was finally able to release cool cars, like the Quattro all-wheel drive.

Audi has been merged, sold off, and absorbed so many times especially after being dormant for a few years after World War II. The company was founded by A. Horch & Cie. in 1989.

Unfortunately, ten years later one of the founders Horche had a fall out with his financial officer forcing him to leave his company and start another one.

Because of copyright issues, he was not able to use the name Horche (his name) again. It, therefore, decided to use the Latin version of his name, Audi.

Later in 1932, issues began to crop up between the two Horch’s; Horch the man and Horch the company.

In the end, Horch the company agreed to merge with Audi and two other German car manufacturers and the four companies curved one name, Auto Union, hence the four rings that are seen on Audi models up to date.

With the merger, the company rose to become Germany’s second biggest car company, Mercedes-Benz being the first.

Each of the companies took president over a market segment. Audi was put in charge of deluxe mid-size cars, Horch, High-end luxury cars, and the two other companies Wanderer and DKW in charge of mid-size cars and small motorcycles and small cars, respectively.

There are a lot of ways that Audi has impressed car lovers for many generations.

The Auto Union Type C car run with a V16 with 560 horsepower (bonkers) and its streamlined version used by the legendary Bernd Rosemeyer during the match between Mercedes and Auto Union is one epic car that can never be erased from history.

The car was developed and reinforced by Adolf Hitler and the German Nazi party.

During World War II, Auto Union suffered a collection of setbacks. The company was dissolved in 1948 since the management had fled from their headquarters in Soviet controlled East Germany to Ingolstadt. It was later rebuilt in 1949 using a new name, Auto Union GmbH.

Improvements in the German sector also saw the resurrection of cars manufactured by this company under the name DMK. In the 1950s the company was sold to Daimler-Benz and in 1965 a new owner Volkswagen acquired it. Four years later, Volkswagen merged Auto Union with another German company it had bought called NSU to produce Audi NSU Auto Union AG.

The RS 2 was Audi’s first high-end performance car and the initiator of the long train of the impressively fast Audi wagons. This car was developed with help from Porsche that tunes and supplied several parts. The Quattro is Audi’s car that revolutionized rallying.

The car was a top performer between 1981 and 1986 when it won numerous championships. The latest Audi car in 2017, the Audi A6 is a true definition of the kind of styling and premium features that Audi have maintained in all their models through the years.

Common Audi Car Problems

Audi cars are mostly sporty cars that were designed to be used and even abused. Although Audi was the first German company to start performing crash tests, which it still does up to date. As a car buyer, you should still understand the possible hicks that might arise with your Audi car. However, you should make use of your repair manual to solve some issues.

  • Clogged Plenum Tray Drain – A clogged drain problem has been reported in Audi A4 Quattro models. This problem can cause rain water to collect in the plenum tray which is located at the bottom of the windshield.
This water can further leak into the electrical components, brake booster and other parts in the interior of the vehicle. It is recommended that you keep the tray clear of any debris or leaves and contact a professional to help you solve the problem conclusively.
  • Flasher Relay Failure- Users of the Audi A6 Quattro and A4 Quattro have complained about emergency flashers coming on and going off randomly without warning.
If you notice an erratic turn signal with your Audi model it’s wise that you seek a replacement as soon as possible or a viable solution since this might be caused by the failure in the turn signal flasher.
  • Popping Noise From Tank And No Start After Refueling – If you hear popping or thumb noises from your fuel tank area when slowing down or starting the engine, you should take your Audi car for a check-up. The noise is potentially from the leak detection pump that has filled the fuel tank with air.
The noise is produced as it tries to release the air and instead is met by a fault.  The series of pop noises that can signify an issue include:
  • Vibration when slowing down to stop the car
  • Engine requires cranking for more than 30 seconds after refueling
  • A series of loud pops from the rear side of the car
  • Check engine light illuminates
  • Pops suddenly disappear and the fuel economy is lowered

The possible cause of this problem is that the EVAP system purge valve or the N80 valve is worn out. The valve is mounted at the top part of the intake tank and has been designed to open under specific circumstances. However, when the valve is worn out it tends to fail to close.

This, in turn, prevents pressurization of the fuel tank which leads to the pops. An auto repair professional can help diagnose the problem and act accordingly to find a lasting solution.
