How does an OBD2 Scanner work?

These include manifold pressure sensors, engine knock sensors, oxygen sensors and many others. Every one of the sensors is designed to generate a signal and send it to the Engine Control Unit or the computer of the car.

This information is then used by the ECU for adjusting different elements to the most optimum levels.

In case the information received by the ECU from a sensor is out of proportion, a Diagnostic Trouble Code DLC is saved and a signal is sent to the check engine light.

In case this light comes up and remains on, your car might be suffering from a minor issue.

It is somewhat safe to drive the car in this scenario until you find the time to get it properly checked. In case the light starts blinking, the ongoing issue is likely to require immediate attention. Otherwise the engine might sustain some serious damage.

So when you plug your OBD2 scanner into the car, it transmits signals to the ECU and retrieve the relevant information on what actually is going on in there. On the basis of the received information, it displays the DLC code on the screen.

High end models also provide a few details on the ongoing issue along with the proposed solution.

  3. Also consider: In-depth diagnostics can be achieved as real time info is provided. This can help you get to the root of a problem faster. Additionally, graphical data logging can be organized so that you can better understand the information that’s being recorded. A drawback of this product is that it cannot read ABS, SRS and TPMS codes. You’ll need specialized tools to get access to this information. It’s recommended that the Torque Pro app is used in conjunction with this OBD2 Bluetooth scanner for optimal use. Overall, this scanning tool allows you to locate problems before they become serious and cause you more damage.

  4. Regarding buying obd-2 scanner…

I have a Opel Corsa 2006 B type. It is giving me problems now. I have read a little bit about OBD2 scanning tools. But don’t know if one could help me, or that I am maybe hoping for too much.

I have read that you can link them to your laptop and download program that can configure you car’s computer, and do various other functions, like tell you what is wrong with the car.

So I was thinking of getting one I can link to my laptop but I’m not sure.

My question is, what’s the point of resetting the fault when it’s not actually fixed. Should I really buy a obd tester, that’s the question. Will continue researching.
